Diversity Advancement Program (DAP)

The Diversity Advancement Program (DAP) is a selective program that provides students with the opportunity to hone in on their leadership and interpersonal skills while expanding their personal network and advancing diversity initiatives in the Haslam College of Business.

DAP Advocates are responsible for representing the department at college fairs, school and corporate visits and community events. Advocates have the opportunity to interact with diverse professionals from business and government and act as liaisons to various communities the office serves.

DAP Advocates for the 2015-2016 school year:

Imani Bruce

Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee
Junior: Supply chain management with a dual concentration in marketing

"I love diversity because it encourages beautiful people from different backgrounds and walks of life to come together and exchange thoughts!"

Mario Grant

Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee
Sophomore: Supply chain management with a collateral in information management

"I love diversity because I value individualization and the unique quality that everyone has. It is amazing that we live in a world with over 7 billion people and no two people are exactly the same. I believe that it is our differences that make us stronger when unified to accomplish a specific goal/task. Learning from others and growing from those experiences help the world become a better place to live!"

Emmalee Holt

Hometown: Jefferson City, Tennessee
Junior: Business analytics with a collateral in finance and marketing with a collateral in international business

"I value diversity because it makes our community stronger by recognizing differences and making the most of them!"

Marcus Jeter

Hometown: Knoxville, Tennessee
MBA/MS candidate: Dual MBA/MS Business Analytics

"Diversity is great because everyone gets to create their own diversity! The following is one of my favorite quotes that embodies my exact thoughts: 'Diversity is the one true thing we all have in common. Celebrate it every day.'" — Unknown

Chrisse Lam

Hometown: Greenville, Tennessee
Sophomore: Accounting

"I love diversity because it is about embracing all individuals for who they truly are and recognizing their uniqueness! I also enjoy listening to different people's perspectives."

Tierney Little

Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee
Junior: Human resources with a collateral in entrepreneurship and special education

"Diversity is important because everyone wants to be and needs to be included in order to get an accurate representation of the human population. Not being diverse or in a diverse environment complicates things — certain groups begin to feel less important and often feel as if they do not matter. Diversity eliminates that and can unite people from different backgrounds in positive ways!"

Kareem Phillips

Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee
Sophomore: Accounting

"I love diversity because I am fascinated by the perspectives of others who are unlike me!"

Diamond Rayborn

Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee
Senior: Marketing with a collateral in international business

"Diversity is significant because it encourages me to learn others’ cultures and potentially strengthen my current skills!"

Sidney Taylor

Hometown: Sparta, Tennessee
Junior: Finance with a collateral in accounting

"Diversity is great because it means that every voice in the room is being heard, which is the only way to gain true equality and success. Before coming to UT, I was passionate about diversity but never had a platform to show it. I joined organizations like DAP, NABA and She's the First, which have allowed me to gain a better understanding of global and nationwide aspects of diversity."
